AMERICAN PRESIDENT
In the movie “The American President”, Louis, played by Michael J. Fox, confronts the President, played by Michael Douglas, about his lack of action when attacked by his political opponent.
Louis, in an angry voice, tells the President: “People want leadership, Mr. President and in the absent of genuine leadership they will listen to anyone who will step up to the microphone. They want leadership. They are so thirsty for it that they will crawl through the desert towards a mirage and when they discover there is no water they will drink the sand.”
The President then responded: “People don’t drink the sand because they are thirsty. They drink the sand because they don’t know the difference.”
The point and the response are true. People want leadership and people will follow anyone, any philosophy, any new idea not only because they are thirsty, but because they don’t know the difference between water and sand.
As Christians it is our duty to inform these people who the true leader is, who the living water really is, Jesus Christ (John 4:13-14).
This is the time of year when people determine what they will do in the coming months. Summer is coming to a close, children have headed back to school. Take a few moments to invite a friend, a work associate, a neighbor to church, a youth activity, a bible study, a fellowship group activity. Introduce them to the Leader, be a disciple for Christ.
